Surround Sound

The idea of great sounding media has always captured the hearts and minds of Americans. Even in the 1940’s, Walt Disney had come up with a method of surround sound called Fantasound. Of course, originally the results were not near as stunning as they are today. There are different types of sound, and in the early years, they were mostly classified as monophonic and stereophonic, both of which were nowhere near surround sound’s caliber. As time went on, the quadraphonic type of sound was introduced, which allowed music and sounds to be projected on four channels. This is also commonly known as Dolby sound systems. Dolby was a pioneer in the industry of surround sound, helping with movies such as Close Encounters of the Third Kind and Star Wars. The company began utilizing new breakthrough methods in the 1970’s.

Now that digital technology has become increasingly more popular, the Dolby surround systems available today are much more complex. They also have a much richer, clearer, more realistic sound. The difference between surround sound and normal, mono sounds is that surround sound moves throughout the area, and produces a tighter sound. Watching television or movies is much more fun when you have the technology of surround sound. You can actually hear a car whizzing by, because the sound moves throughout the room through various speakers placed in different areas. It puts the viewer or listener right in the center of the excitement, making you feel like you are really there. Movies have a more profound effect when the sounds are louder and more concise, and you get a better sense of what is happening when the sound is more effective. Surround systems can be purchased from almost any major electronic retailer, and since they are becoming more and more popular, you can usually purchase them for a reasonable price.
